TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei Metro said Tuesday (July 23) it would adjust service on the Danhai Light Rail (LRT), Ankeng LRT, and Circular Line in anticipation of Typhoon Gaemi.
Train speeds would be reduced or service suspended based on wind intensity. In the event of school and work closures, trains will operate at intervals of 15 to 30 minutes, per CNA.
The transit operator said it had completed typhoon preparation measures for all three rail lines on Monday (July 22). However, road closures due to ongoing repairs for an earthquake-damaged section of the Circular Line could be affected by the typhoon.
The Jinwen University of Science and Technology station on the Ankeng Line could flood if rainfall is heavy. If the water level reaches 6 cm (2.4 inches) or higher, trains will wait at the station until the water recedes before services continue.
Danshui and Ankeng LRT Operations
The Danhai and Ankeng Light Rails would slow to 30 km/h if instantaneous wind speeds reached 8 Beaufort. Service would be suspended if 10-minute average wind speeds reached 6 Beaufort or instantaneous winds hit 9 Beaufort.
Services will resume when no winds reach 6 Beaufort (25-31 mph) or higher for two hours, and it is confirmed that tracks and related peripheral facilities are safe and in normal condition.
Circular Line Operations
The Circular Line would slow to 30 km/h if instantaneous winds hit 8 Beaufort, or if 10-minute average winds reached 7 Beaufort or instantaneous winds hit 10 Beaufort. In the event of school and work suspension, trains will operate at 15-minute intervals.
