TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Microsoft experienced a global outage on Friday (July 19), causing disruptions in the systems of several airlines at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
The crash affected flights from Scoot, Jetstar, and Tigerair among others, forcing them to switch to manual check-in per CNA. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said the cause of the outage was not a cyberattack and that a fix is underway, per AP.
The outage also affected computer systems at National Taiwan University (NTU) Hospital, per UDN. The hospital restored its system within 30 minutes, and patient registration, consultations, and medication dispensing were unaffected.
Meanwhile, American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines requested the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ground all their flights due to communication issues from the outage, reported CNA.
