TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — SK Hynix President Justin Kim and Samsung Memory Business President Lee Jung-bae will attend Semicon Taiwan in September, marking their first visit to Taiwan, according to industry sources.
Semi Global Chief Marketing Officer Terry Tsao (曹世綸) confirmed Friday (July 19) that executives from SK Hynix and Samsung will participate in the semiconductor exhibition and speak at a forum, per CNA. Sources familiar with the matter said the memory companies aim to collaborate with Taiwanese firms to capitalize on AI opportunities, per UDN.
With the AI boom driving a resurgence in memory demand, the market for HBM is said to be reshaping the entire industry’s landscape. Sources said the supply chain reveals that upstream memory manufacturers have already booked HBM orders solidly through 2025 and even into Q1 2026.
Sources explained that Taiwan and South Korea’s semiconductor industries have been competitive in the past, especially with the intense competition between Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Samsung.
However, they added with the rise of AI applications, there is an opportunity to foster cooperation between Taiwan and South Korea in the semiconductor industry. For example, TSMC and SK Hynix are jointly developing next-generation HBM4 memory, they said.
