TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — An explosion at a Tainan resin factory sent a large fireball into the sky on Thursday (July 18) that was captured on video by a bystander.
CNA reported the fire broke out in Tainan’s Shanshang Industrial Zone just before 9 a.m. on Thursday. Local fire departments dispatched 39 fire engines, 79 firefighters, and firefighting robots to extinguish the fire, according to the report.
All employees working in the factory immediately evacuated the premises and there have been no reports of casualties. Just after 3 p.m. a representative of the Tainan Fire Department told Taiwan News firefighters had brought the blaze under control, but were yet to put it out completely.
Firefighters told reporters they suspected methanol and toluene had been stored in the factory when it went up in flames. An investigation into the exact cause of the fire will be carried out, firefighters said.
