TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Aviation police arrested a Chinese man who is believed to have stolen from fellow passengers on several flights to and from Taiwan over the past months, reports said Thursday (July 18).
Since March, a number of thefts have been reported on flights from China and Southeast Asia to Taiwan, the Aviation Police Bureau said. By reviewing entry and departure data, they focused on a passenger who had been on board the flights when the thefts occurred, per CNA.
Zhang (張), 55, was also seated close to the passengers who had reported losing money and valuables. The bureau decided to send agents overseas to focus on the main suspect.
On April 12, the agents recorded Zhang going through the overhead luggage compartment, apparently stealing items from other passengers’ bags. When they arrested him after arrival at Taoyuan International Airport, they found 16 different kinds of currency in his possession.
