TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The chance of a mild typhoon developing in the ocean southwest of Taiwan next week is about 70%, though its possible path remains uncertain, meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said on Thursday (July 18).
Wu, an adjunct associate professor at National Central University’s Department of Atmospheric Sciences, said any potential impact from the typhoon on Taiwan is uncertain, per CNA. Wu said the effect depends on the storm’s path, so further monitoring is needed.
Wu also reminded the public to be aware of high temperatures over the coming days. On Thursday, the Central Weather Administration issued red heat warnings for New Taipei and Pingtung County, meaning the daily highs are expected to reach 38 C for the third consecutive day.
Orange warnings, meaning temperatures will reach 38 C for one day (Tainan only) or 36 C for three days in a row, were also issued for the following areas:
- Tainan
- Taipei
- Taoyuan
- Miaoli County
- Taichung
- Changhua County
- Nantou County
- Yunlin County
- Chiayi City and County
- Kaohsiung
- Yilan County
- Hualien County
- Taitung County
