TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Frequent travelers on Taiwan’s railways will be offered discounts of up to 44% on fares starting in August, the Taiwan Railways said on Wednesday (July 17).
Starting Aug. 1, passengers who take between 11 and 20 trips per month will receive a 10% credit the following month, while 21 to 40 trips will earn a 15% credit, and 41 or more trips will earn a 20% credit, Taiwan Railways said in a press release. Credit earned under the new system will be automatically added to passengers’ swipe cards the following month as before.
The Taiwan Railways also said that in August it will introduce 30 and 60 day commuter plans that will allow passengers to take unlimited rides between two stations. Passengers will be able to save up to 44% compared to the regular fare.
The discounted fares can be purchased for trips on the Tze-chiang and Chu-kuang Express lines. Not included are reserved seats on EMU3000 trains, the Puyuma Express, the Taroko Express, and tourist lines.
Passengers can use Taiwan Railways’ frequent passenger cards, EasyCard, iPASS, and iCash cards to access the discounts. Taiwan Railways said that for each of these cards, it will also release 5,000 commemorative versions of the 30 and 60 day passes, which will go on presale on July 29.
In addition to commuter passes, multi-day tourist passes are also available for users of the Taiwan Railways, Taiwan High Speed Rail, MRT services, and buses.
