TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — MediaTek may use Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) 3nm (nanometer) process, according to industry sources.
Although MediaTek has not commented on these rumors, a number of sources suggested that it will develop server-specific CPU and GPU chips based on Arm architecture using TSMC’s 3nm process, per UDN. The design is expected to be finalized in the first half of next year, targeting tech giants including Microsoft, Google, and Meta.
MediaTek has a strong relationship with Arm and has joined the Arm Total Design platform. The platform has already attracted major IC design companies like Novatek and Realtek.
Additionally, MediaTek has entered the AI server supply chain through its SerDes chips. Once its processor layout for AI servers is complete, the company will have the opportunity to collaborate with Nvidia on high-end AI servers.
Meanwhile, according to a Samsung press release on Tuesday (July 16), the South Korean tech company announced its Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM will be used on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 platform.
