TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A congressional delegation from Guatemala will arrive in Taiwan on Monday (July 15) and remain in the country until Friday (July 19), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on Sunday (July 14).
The delegation is comprised of lawmakers from multiple political parties, led by the President of the Congress of Guatemala, Nery Ramos. The delegation will meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) in Taipei, on what will be Ramos’ first diplomatic trip abroad since being elected as leader of the Congress in January, according to the MOFA press release.
In addition to Ramos, the delegation includes the Second Vice-President of Congress César Amézquita, the First Secretary of Congress Karina Paz, as well as the Convener of the Seed Movement party caucus José Sanabria.
While the delegation is in Taiwan, they are expected to visit the Legislative Yuan, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the National Police Headquarters, Taipei 101, and to tour stations of the Taipei MRT system. There are also plans for the group to spend at least one day in Tainan, where they will visit the Taiwan Southern Science Park and various cultural sites, per the press release.
There are plans for Taiwan’s foreign minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) to host a banquet for the lawmakers. MOFA extends a warm welcome to the delegation and noted the long history of cooperation, mutual support and shared values between Guatemala and Taiwan.
