TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two extra charter flights will be added between Taitung and Hanoi after an initial flight sold out, the Taitung County Government said on Saturday (July 13).
The county government said the first flight is scheduled to fly on Aug. 30, and its 230 seats were fully booked within a month of tickets going on sale, per CNA. It has now added two extra flights, expected to fly before the end of October.
The flights are jointly organized by Formosa Holiday (華府旅行社) and the Taitung County Government’s tourism department.
Formosa Holiday noted that the direct flights mean Taitung residents can avoid first having to travel to Taoyuan International Airport - an approximately six-hour journey via public transportation or driving, which is more than twice the flight time between Taitung and Hanoi.
The flights are operated by VietJet Air, which Formosa Holiday said will be the first foreign airline to fly out of Taitung County, which has a population of around 240,000. The Taitung County tourism department said that all is well with tourism in the region following the Hualien earthquake in April, and that it hopes to attract more visitors in the future.
