TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) administration on Tuesday (July 9) condemned Russia's missile attack on a children's hospital in Ukraine.
On Monday, a Russian missile struck the Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital, flattening part of the facility and killing at least two and wounding 16, including seven children, reported CBS News. At noon on Tuesday, Taiwan Presidential Office Spokesperson Lii Wen (李問) said on X that Taiwan strongly condemns Russia's “brutal attacks” on the hospital.
Lii said the attack highlights the “threat of authoritarian expansionism on humanity.” Lii pointed out that Taiwan has made donations to the hospital in the past and Taiwan remains “committed to our support for Ukraine.”
In a message in Mandarin included below, Taiwan also condemned the attacks on innocent civilians across the capital city of Kyiv. Lii said Russia's “egregious attacks” completely ignore human dignity.
Russia's daytime aerial barrage of missiles on Ukrainian cities on Monday killed an estimated 38 people, including four children, and injured 190 others, announced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday.
