TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Raymond Greene assumed his role as the new Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) on Tuesday (July 9).
AIT announced Greene as its new director in a press release on May 29. The career diplomat replaced former Director Sandra Oudkirk on Tuesday, according to CNA.
This assignment marks Greene’s third in Taiwan, per AIT. His first tenure was from 2018 to 2021 as AIT deputy director, and his most recent role was deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Japan from 2021 to 2024.
“Greene is a member of the State Department’s Senior Foreign Service and has spent his 28-year career advancing U.S. diplomatic, economic, and security engagement in the Indo-Pacific region,” AIT explained. “Director Greene looks forward to building on the successes of his predecessors and to further advancing the rock-solid U.S.-Taiwan partnership.”
