TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Sundance Institute together with G2Go Entertainment announced the Sundance Film Festival Asia will be held at Taipei’s Spot-Huashan from Aug. 21-25.
The film festival returns for a second consecutive year, bringing award-winning films from the Sundance Film Festival held in January in Park City, Utah. A total of 10 feature films and five short films will be shown to local audiences, per a press release.
One of the most anticipated screenings is the opening film "Dìdi" (弟弟) written and directed by Taiwanese American director Sean Wang (王湘聖). The film won the Sundance Audience Award for U.S. Dramatic Feature and the Special Jury Award for U.S. Dramatic, Ensemble Acting.
Wang’s previous cinematic work includes the short film “Nai Nai and Wai Po” (奶奶跟外婆), which was shortlisted for the 96th Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film. Wang will participate in the red carpet ceremony on Aug. 21 and related activities, allowing local audiences the chance to meet the up-and-coming director.
Other film screenings include narrative feature films: "Sujo," "Little Death," "Porcelain War," “Kneecap,” "Your Monster,” and "A New Kind of Wilderness." Many films will be represented by directors and producers who will participate in screenings and related film forums open to local audiences
Kevin Lin (林士斌), founder of G2Go Entertainment, said via a press release, "We are honored to welcome the Sundance Film Festival to Taipei again this year. The first event last year attracted more than 3,000 participants and with more films this year, we hope to attract an even larger audience to participate."
Lin added, “This is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we are very happy to present the Sundance Film Festival in Taipei again and promote the spirit of independent film!”
