TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chair James Huang (黃志芳) arrived in Delhi on Saturday (July 6) to discuss trade cooperation with Indian manufacturers.
On Saturday, Huang visited Syrma SGS, Sentec, and Talbros in tech city Gurgaon, per CNA. The chair will also attend Taiwan Expo in India held from July 8-10.
Huang said India has a demographic dividend and its economy has grown rapidly in recent years, surpassing the U.K. to become the world’s fifth-largest economy, per Liberty Times. Given recent geopolitical shifts and the trend toward supply chain autonomy, there are many opportunities for cooperation between Taiwan and India, he said.
Huang acknowledged that entering the Indian market might pose challenges for Taiwanese businesses, but the success of Taiwanese-owned Sentec serves as a prime example. He emphasized that having unique products could create significant market niches despite lower prices.
Syrma CEO Satendra Singh said many major companies have design centers in India, creating products for global markets. Over the years, India’s manufacturing capabilities have also grown rapidly. Meanwhile, Taiwan has a well-established OEM (original equipment manufacturer) ecosystem, he said.
“For instance, if a Taiwanese company has a certain product technology and requires large-scale production support, they can come to India,” Singh explained.
Talbros Chair Girish S. noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is open to engaging with any country and is not influenced by specific nations. He said the electronics and semiconductor industries are key areas for cooperation with Taiwan, citing Foxconn’s increased investment in India as an example.
