TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Police are searching for a man suspected of fatally shooting Lin Shih-chieh (林士傑), chair of the Tainan City Fisherman's Association, on Monday morning (July 8).
Lin (53) was killed at close range in front of his home by an unidentified assailant. Police have since released surveillance camera footage of the shooting.
The shooter was carrying two guns and was wearing a black ballcap, black-hooded sweatshirt, athletic pants, sunglasses, a mask, and red sneakers, per SET News. Lin reportedly lived with his mother on Xinle Road in Tainan's South District.
The gunman was seen loitering under a covered sidewalk about 50 meters from Lin's residence at 5:44 a.m. Lin had just gotten out of a black pickup truck and was putting a dog cage by his front door.
Upon spotting Lin, the gunman ran up holding two guns, and fired multiple shots at close range. Lin suffered three shots to the chest. After the shooting, the suspect ran off toward the park across the street.
Despite emergency treatment at Chi Mei Medical Center in Yongkang District, doctors were unable to resuscitate Lin and he was pronounced dead.
Forensic experts found several bullet casings at the scene and they believe the crime was premeditated. It appears the shooter had prior knowledge of Lin's daily routine.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to trace the suspect's whereabouts. Police have identified the suspect's vehicle and have preliminary information suggesting only one person committed the crime, but they are not ruling out the possibility of accomplices, reported ETtoday.
