TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Lin Shih-chieh (林士傑), chair of the Tainan City Fisherman's Association was fatally shot on Monday (July 8).
At 5 a.m., Lin stepped out of his residence in Tainan's South District and was about to get into a black pickup truck driven by a friend when an unidentified person approached and fired multiple shots at close range, per CNA. The gunman immediately fled the scene.
After receiving a shooting report, the Tainan City Government Fire Bureau dispatched personnel to the scene. When they arrived, Lin had no vital signs and had wounds to his neck, chest, and both arms.
He was rushed to Chi Mei Medical Center for emergency medical treatment, but doctors were unable to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead.
Lin's body was taken to the South District Funeral Parlor. His family members, including his daughter, Lin Yi-ting (林依婷), a Democratic Progressive Party Tainan city councilor, arrived at the funeral home to make arrangements.
The police formed a special task force, and forensic personnel collected evidence at the scene. Jhang Wun-yuan (張文源), chief of the Tainan City Police Department's Criminal Investigation Corps, told the media that initial findings indicate that the shooter acted alone but did not rule out the likelihood of accomplices. The police have identified a suspicious vehicle and are tracking it.
