TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Blood donors are needed in Taiwan as supplies run low.
Supplies in some blood banks have fallen as low as 4.2 days, the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation said on Saturday (July 6). The foundation said it hopes people can “roll up their sleeves” to increase the blood supply for those who need it.
All types of blood are needed and types A and O are most lacking, the foundation said. As of Saturday morning the blood supply in Taipei and Taichung was at 4.6 days, Kaohsiung at 4.2 days, while Hsinchu’s supply was normal at 7.4 days.
Director of the Taipei Blood Center Liu Chun-hung (劉俊宏) told CNA that the recent extreme heat means less people are going out to donate blood. Liu also said there has been a clear increase in the number of people who are sick, preventing people from donating.
Foreigners in Taiwan can also donate blood, according to charity Haxstrong, which has published instructions on how to do so.
