TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Sitronix Technology subsidiary Sync-Tech System broke ground for their new fab in Kaohsiung’s Ciaotou Science Park on Thursday (July 4).
Kaohsiung City Government's Economic Development Bureau said in a press release that Sync-Tech is building the first phase of its semiconductor packaging and testing equipment component at Ciaotou. The facility will provide advanced product testing technologies such as probe interface cards and test platforms for the global semiconductor industry, the bureau reported, per CNA.
Kaohsiung Economic Development Bureau Director-General Liao Tai-hsiang (廖泰翔) said that, according to research agencies, the global semiconductor probe card market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 11.7% from 2023 to 2027.
“In the past, Taiwan's semiconductor testing was mainly dominated by foreign companies,” Liao explained. “However, in recent years, Taiwanese testing interface manufacturers have gradually improved their probe card manufacturing capabilities.”
Sitronix Chair Vincent Mao (毛穎文) said the demand for emerging IC products has increased with continuous innovation in technology products driven by new applications in the OLED and automotive sectors. This necessitates constant improvement in probe card and testing equipment capabilities, he added.
Sitronix said that since its establishment in 2014, the company has been dedicated to providing probe card and testing-related services, with all technologies independently developed by its team. The company said it hopes the new Sync-Tech plant will create more job opportunities in Kaohsiung and contribute to the city’s development.
