TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s top two professional basketball leagues are set to merge—PLG+ and T1—with one of the first actions taken by the combined league to be a joint draft scheduled for July 15.
According to a statement released by the two leagues on Monday (July 1), they reached a consensus regarding the draft's specifics. Negotiations also included an agreement to prohibit international students from the process.
However, a concession will allow foreign students currently under team contract to be on rosters in the 2025–26 season, per CNA. Ongoing negotiations will address the participation of foreign players, those designated as Taiwanese foreign nationals, or those whose parents have Taiwanese citizenship.
A final decision regarding roster composition will be made public after all regulations governing the new league are agreed upon.
The draft order will be similar to the previous team draft order established by the two leagues. For teams sharing the same draft order, an on-site drawing will be held each round to decide which team picks first.
A joint combine inviting 40 Taiwanese players is also scheduled for Wednesday (July 3). According to the report, the two leagues have attempted to prioritize local athletes and preparation for international competitions as they merge.
