TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The renowned Taipei First Girls High School Marching Band (TFGMHB) kicked off its Canadian tour with a performance on Monday (July 1), coinciding with Canada Day celebrations.
The TFGMHB, a beacon of Taiwanese cultural heritage, holds the distinction of being the nation's oldest, most prestigious marching band ensemble. For decades, the marching band has represented the school, city, and nation at countless major celebrations and events both domestically and internationally, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The TFGMHB's captains, Chen Zu-yu (陳祖玉), Lo Koh-an (羅可安), and Chen Ruo-ting (陳若庭), spoke on behalf of the team. They expressed their immense honor to perform in Canada and thanked the audience for their enthusiastic support, per CNA.
The marching band captivated the audience for nearly twenty minutes, flawlessly executing a medley of difficult techniques, playing instruments, twirling rifles, and waving flags. Applause from the crowd echoed long after the performance ended.
Vancouver City Councilor Pete Fry expressed his support for Taiwan and praised the band's performance. He said the energetic performance added a beautiful touch to Canada Day celebrations.
The TFGMHB will also grace the stage at the Calgary Stampede, billed as the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth," during their Canadian tour. The Calgary Stampede is a unique, century-old Canadian tradition.
