TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The 2024 Presidential Office Music Concert, themed "Power of Freedom," will be held on July 20 to cheer on Taiwan's national athletes competing in the Paris Olympics.
The free concert is organized by the Office of the President and the General Association of Chinese Culture (GACC). It will take place at 7 p.m. at the Arts Plaza of the National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH), per CNA.
GACC unveiled the first wave of performers on Friday (June 28), highlighting the event's focus on Taiwan's diverse cultural landscape. The lineup features artists singing in Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka, and Indigenous languages.
A talented production team has been assembled. This includes Chien Wen-pin (簡文彬), general and artistic director of the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts; award-winning musician Lu Lu-ming (盧律銘); and Ting Tu-lan (丁度嵐), CEO of the Kaohsiung Music Center.
The National Symphony Youth Orchestra (NSYO) led by conductor Yang Chih-chin will take center stage. This is a continuation of the Presidential Office Music Concert tradition.
GACC Secretary General Lee Hou-ching (李厚慶) said the NSYO will collaborate with artists from various fields. Classical and pop music will be weaved with performing arts to showcase Taiwan's vibrant and free spirit.
The concert promises a cross-generational, cross-ethnic, and cross-disciplinary experience. Aquaman (阿跨面), winner of MTV The Rappers season 2, will team up with top breakdancers from five different groups. The performance will be further enhanced by a video backdrop featuring traditional glove puppetry from Chen Shih-huang's (陳錫煌) troupe and golden light puppetry.
