TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — With summer in full swing, Hengchun Peninsula Tourism Industry Alliance Chair Lin Jung-chin (林榮欽) said Saturday (June 29) the hotel booking rate in Kenting and Liuqiu reached 90%.
In an interview with CNA, Lin said many high-quality hotels and B&Bs are full. “The overall tourism boom is good,” he added.
Pingtung County Lodging Association Chair Yu Sung-hua (余松華) said “every day there are guests.” Despite the hot summer weather, most travelers tend to book their stays about a week before their trip due to typhoons or heavy rain, he added.
On weekdays, the booking rate is about 60-70%, Yu said. The majority of visitors are families with children, with foreign tourists mostly concentrated around South Bay (Nanwan) in Kenting, he added.
Meanwhile, following the influx of travelers, Pingtung County Police Bureau reported that by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, there were 25,000 vehicles on the road. They estimate that the total traffic volume will reach around 40,000 vehicles.
Apart from slight congestion on Provincial Highway 88 between Taichung and Pingtung in the morning, overall traffic conditions were smooth, police said.
