TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s National Central Library (NCL) donated 80 books to National Library of South Africa (NLSA) on Friday (June 21).
According to an NCL press release, this donation marks the 15th “Taiwan Corner,” the library’s worldwide initiative to promote Taiwanese literature. The donation ceremony took place at the NCL with NSLA Director of Public Engagement Marcus Maphile in attendance, per CNA.
NCL Director General Wang Han-ching (王涵青) said to deepen cultural exchanges between Taiwan and South Africa, the Taiwan Corner was donated to the Cape Town branch of the National Library of South Africa.
“The collection includes 80 books related to Taiwan’s history, culture, geography, and natural landscapes, allowing the South African public to learn about Taiwan through the library,” she said.
Wang added Maphile has over 25 years of experience in library and publishing services. He oversees public engagement and the operations of the Cape Town branch, promoting reading and writing in all official languages, she explained.
Additionally, on Thursday (June 20), Maphile gave a presentation at the NCL on African and Chinese literature and their historical relationship.
