TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation from Saint Kitts and Nevis led by Prime Minister Terrance Drew arrived in Taiwan on Saturday (June 22), marking his second visit to the country.
According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) press release, the delegation included the prime minister’s wife Diani Prince-Drew, Foreign Minister Denzil Douglas, Premier of Nevis Island Mark Brantley, and other officials. They will be in Taiwan from June 22-26 to visit businesses and cultural facilities, per CNA.
After meeting Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), Drew spoke about the strong and fruitful diplomatic relationship between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan since independence from the United Kingdom in September 1983. The prime minister said Saint Kitts and Nevis is a steadfast friend and partner of Taiwan.
MOFA said the government of Saint Kitts and Nevis has consistently supported Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
“Under Prime Minister Drew’s leadership, their parliament has unanimously passed resolutions for two consecutive years supporting Taiwan's involvement in the U.N. and World Health Organization (WHO),” it added.
“Both countries have closely cooperated in healthcare, education, and tourism, yielding significant benefits for the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis,” the ministry said.
