TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung Museum of History opened its “Three Indigenous Tribes, Three Flavors, exhibition on Thursday (June 20).
According to a museum press release, Maolin District is the least populated district in Kaohsiung City. However, it boasts a rich ecological landscape and stories from the three Indigenous tribes that live there, the Teldreka, Oponoho, and Kongdavang tribes.
The show includes Rukai embroidery pieces, traditional tribal clothing, and historical photographs, per CNA.
Maolin District Chief Lu Wei-chih (駱韋志), who comes from a warrior family, noted the differences between the century-old warrior clothing patterns displayed in the exhibition and those of today. Lu said cultural preservation is crucial and hoped that Maolin can develop its culture, tourism, and ecology for sustainable development.
Kaohsiung City Councilor Fan Chih-chin (范織欽) expressed pride in the exhibition for highlighting Maolin's distinctiveness and delving into historical documents. The councilor added that a collective effort is necessary to showcase Maolin’s culture, akin to the saying, “A single flower does not make a spring.”
Museum Director Li Wen-huan (李文環) praised the vibrant local energy and thanked organizations and schools for their generosity and enthusiasm.
The exhibit will run from June 20-Oct. 27.
