TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — J&V Energy has confirmed that Nvidia approached the company to buy its green power on Thursday (June 20).
During his recent visit to Taiwan, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) underlined the company’s intention to increase investment in the country. It was reported that Nvidia has been reaching out to major domestic suppliers, per UDN.
According to J&V Energy Spokesperson Chang Chien-wei (張建偉), the volume of energy that Nvidia requested is astonishing. Chang said even if all Taiwanese green energy providers sold their electricity to Nvidia, it still would not be enough, considering other high-tech companies in Taiwan also require green energy.
“Therefore, increasing the supply of renewable energy is essential to attract more companies to invest in Taiwan,” the spokesperson said.
Chang added due to net zero emissions becoming a global trend, all companies need to procure green energy. However, Taiwan’s supply of green energy from solar, wind, and hydro sources is insufficient to meet demand, he said.
Regarding Nvidia’s green energy procurement, Chang disclosed that J&V Energy, as the largest green energy supplier in Taiwan, will undoubtedly be involved in the opportunities Nvidia presents, reported CNA.
