TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A video that circulated online on Thursday (June 20) drew derision from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters as it misspelled “Blue Eagle” as “Bliue Eagle.”

To counter the spontaneous mobilization by civic groups and the DPP-supported Bluebird Movement, the Kuomintang (KMT) also mobilized its supporters to launch the "Blue Eagle Movement.” This was launched in support of the legislative revote on amendments passed in May to expand its powers, per the Liberty Times. 

The Chinese-to-English translations of the slogans in the video also contained errors. Blue Eagle Movement organizers denied the video was produced by the party headquarters or the KMT party caucus and suspected it might have been tampered with.

In response to the DPP "Bluebird," the KMT announced its own "Blue Bird," but had to awkwardly rename it "Blue Eagle" after realizing the Taiwanese pronunciation sounded like the word for a male genital. 

DPP Legislator Su Chiao-hui (蘇巧慧) pointed out inaccurate Chinese-to-English translations of some slogans in the video. These included translating "make Taiwan better" (讓台灣更好) to “Taiwan is better" and “witness the moment” (見證時刻) as “witness moment.” 

Blue Eagle organizers claimed the video was not made by the KMT but by supporters using AI. They said they originally received a correct version and only saw the "pranked version" circulating online Thursday afternoon.
