TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Administration Office launched a new cycling promotional campaign “YouBike I Like” (白金騎跡雲嘉南) on Wednesday (June 19) to promote tourism in Taiwan’s southwestern region.
This campaign promotes tourism in Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan counties. It highlights the unique white salt fields and golden sunsets in the areas, per Taiwan: Waves of Wonder.
A major cycling event, the "Taiwan SWCoast Cycling Tour" (騎福極西點), will be held on Sept. 7 to further promote the region. It is themed around the area's important religious beliefs.
The tour will begin at Tainan’s Nankunshen Daitian Temple (南鯤鯓代天府). It is a place of worship for the five Wang Ye (王爺) lords: Li, Chi, Wu, Chu, and Fan.
Cyclists will then ride to the Guosheng Port Lighthouse (國聖港燈塔). It marks the westernmost point of Taiwan proper.
The final stop is Taiwan's largest Orthodox Luermen Shengu (Mazu) Temple (正統鹿耳門聖母廟). The trip blends the two major beliefs of Wang Ye and Mazu.
The event offers three route options: the 90-km "Fortune Ride" (騎福組), the 40-km "Scenic Ride" (騎跡組), and the family-friendly 30-km "Family Ride" (親子組). These routes will take participants past popular tourist destinations such as the Beimen Crystal Church (水晶教堂), the Jing Zhai Jiao Tile Paved Salt Fields (井仔腳瓦盤鹽田), and the 1920 Meiyang Forest (1920美漾森林).

In addition, the administration launched a self-certification program for cyclists starting June 19. Participants can enter a monthly drawing by posting a photo of themselves and their bikes at designated sites or with event-certified businesses.
