TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A bed and breakfast (B&B) in Taitung closed on Sunday (June 16) after it was caught secretly filming a female guest.
The Bonito Inn on Zhongxing Road had a 9 out of 10 rating on Booking.com, however, the owner announced its closure over the weekend after a female tourist who recently stayed at the B&B reportedly found a concealed camera, per SET News.
A netizen revealed in the Facebook group "Taitung Matters" that a female friend discovered a pinhole camera disguised as a night light in the bathroom of her room. She immediately called the police upon finding the camera.

When the police arrived, they removed the camera, found a memory card, and determined that the owner surnamed Chen (陳) had planted the device. Chen was arrested and his case was handed over to prosecutors, while computers and other equipment were seized to determine if there were additional victims.
After being exposed online, Chen confessed to his crime on Facebook and apologized. "I am sorry for the unforgivable mistake I made. I offer my deepest apologies to the victims and those around me. The incident has been investigated and I am willing to accept the appropriate penalty."
Chen also announced that the B&B would cease operations immediately and promised never to engage in the lodging business again.

The Taitung County Government sent personnel to inspect the hostel on Monday morning (June 17) but found the doors locked and could not reach Chen by phone. Taitung's Transportation and Development Department said if the inspection confirmed that Chen secretly filmed guests, a fine of NT$30,000 (US$926) to NT$150,000 would be imposed.
For a severe violation, the fine can range from NT$150,000 to NT$500,000. The county government said the maximum penalty would be revoking Bonita Inn's business license.
