TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Three years after returning to Yunlin to become a goose farmer, Formosa Goose founder Tsai Ying-ti (蔡英地) has now achieved net zero emissions.
Tsai launched Formosa Goose in 2021 after being emotionally driven to return to his family’s hometown, per CNA. According to a press release by the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) on Thursday (June 13), the ministry facilitated cooperation between Formosa Goose and Cathay Life Insurance to help Tsai build solar panels and improve agriculture techniques.
The ministry said that in addition to introducing smart agriculture technology to the local goose farming industry in Yunlin, Tsai also expanded his efforts to use organic residues from goose farming to irrigate farmland and grow corn for feeding geese. This practice of circular agriculture revitalized the local goose farming industry and restored the area’s soil fertility, it explained.
Tsai, formerly an accountant, said he recently began collaborating with other local farmers using the same model. He also experimented with using organic waste from goose farming to irrigate farmland, allowing him to grow corn to be harvested for the geese.
The ministry said it believes that in recent years, the solar panel industry has matured greatly.
“Combining rooftop solar panels with livestock farm operations can provide a new sustainable path for traditional livestock industries,” it said. “We hope that agricultural and fishing villages across the country will look to Formosa Goose energy as a self-sufficiency model, creating more sustainable agricultural and rural developments and contributing to global net zero emissions.”
