TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — An exhibition showcasing the opulent lives of Czech royalty and nobility opened Thursday (June 13) at the National Taiwan Museum (NTM).
"Czech Castles and Chateaux" features artifacts used by the elite from the Medieval times to the 19th century. The NTM collaborated with the Czech National Museum and the National Heritage Institute of the Czech Republic for the exhibition, per CNA.
Paintings and models mark the evolution and grandeur of Czech castles and chateaux. The exhibition transcends a historical journey and also serves as a bridge between cultures.
The exhibition highlights 37 architectural gems from the Czech Republic. They include UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Prague Castle, Český Krumlov Castle, and Telč Chateau.
Curator Klára Fleková pointed out that the stark difference between the lives of nobles and commoners is reflected in castle interiors and exteriors. Unique, decorative Gothic tiles on display serve as a testament to the wealth and refined taste of the Czech nobility.
Director General of the Czech National Museum, Dr. Michal Lukeš said that the Czech Republic is “the country of castles and chateaux.” Lukeš pointed out that the Czech Republic has a remarkable concentration of these majestic structures.
Czech Senate Vice President Jiří Drahoš emphasized the presence of castles and chateaux in the Czech countryside. He expressed his hopes that Taiwanese visitors will experience them firsthand.
Drahoš mentioned discussions with Taiwanese Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) regarding increased flights between the two countries. He anticipates the exhibition sparking interest among Taiwanese tourists, per OCAC.
