TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A man surnamed Lin (林) on Wednesday (June 12) crashed a truck into Genghis Khan Fitness Club in Taichung, a gym owned by Taiwanese internet influencer Chen Chih-han (陳之漢), who goes by Kuan Chang (館長).
The Taichung District Prosecutors Office said on Thursday (June 13) that although no injuries were reported, the incident occurred in a public place that endangered the public, per CNA. Lin now faces charges of attempted murder and property damage.
Taichung police received a report at 7:41 p.m. on Wednesday about a small truck crashing into the Genghis Khan Fitness Club on Chongde Road in Beitun District, causing the front doors to shatter. Upon arrival, police found the gym’s entrance damaged by the truck. They took the two men from the truck to the police station for investigation.
The investigation revealed that Lin, who does not possess a fitness license but engages in fitness activities, has been unemployed for about six months and previously worked in the security and service industries. The police said his actions do not appear to be politically motivated.
Police said the vehicle had been rented the previous day in Xitun District by Lin’s friend surnamed Hsu (許), who was sitting in the passenger seat. Hsu, who works in recycling, regularly rents vehicles.
Police added Lin had applied for a job as a fitness instructor at the gym in May but was rejected. Lin claimed that emotional instability led him to lose control and drive into the gym.
After questioning, the police charged Lin with property damage, intimidation, and attempted murder and transferred him to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for further investigation.
