TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Canadian actor and ex-husband of Taiwanese actress and singer Phoebe Huang (黃嘉千) Christopher Downs (夏克立) filed two charges before leaving Taiwan amid “serious and harmful threats.”
In an Instagram post uploaded at noon on Thursday (June 13), Downs wrote that he left Taiwan for safety. Before his departure, Downs said he filed two charges with police.
“An individual I never suspected has been found to be working against me for a long time and after being discovered started making serious and harmful threats," said Downs. He had been informed that other persons had contacted the media on his behalf, ”but neither I, nor my lawyer, authorized this communication."
Downs stressed that all communications with his team should go solely through his lawyer Charley Chen (陳友炘) at Taiwan Grandbay Law Office. He emphasized that no one else is permitted to speak on his behalf, nor do they represent his legal team.
Downs married Huang in Canada in 2006 and they had a daughter in 2009. However, on July 6, 2023, news broke that Huang had filed for divorce at Taipei Shilin District Court.
On Feb. 21, 2024, Downs denied allegations that he had physically abused Huang as a divorce case was heard by a Shilin district court. Downs said prosecutors in Canada had dropped the charges due to a lack of evidence.
