TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chimei Foods CEO Sung Tsung-lung (宋宗龍) said on Wednesday (June 12) the company’s dumpling factory in Poland will begin mass production in August.
Chimei Foods and Polish meat giant SuperDrob have jointly invested approximately NT$200 million (US$6.1 million) to set up a production line in Lodz, Poland’s fourth-largest city, per CNA. On Wednesday, they showcased dumpling production equipment at the plant, with business representatives and local government officials attending the event.
In an interview, the CEO said the company expects one million dumplings to be made daily, or about 25 million monthly, per UDN.
“Due to European regulations prohibiting the import of products containing meat, the joint venture with SuperDrob allows for local sourcing and production of meat-based dumplings and snacks,” Sung explained. Plans include expanding investments and introducing siu mai (Cantonese style dumplings) and xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), Sung added.
Through collaborations with Costco, Asian supermarkets, and other channels, Chimei Foods said it aims to use Poland as a stepping stone to enter the European market, targeting potential markets in the U.K., Germany, France, Belgium, and Denmark.
From a business management perspective, Sung said the main R&D efforts are still based in Taiwan. Additionally, Poland’s good security and work habits are advantageous, the CEO added.
