TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan announced its 2024 Celebration Canada on Wednesday (June 12).
The Canada Day event will be held at Huashan 1914 Creative Park on Saturday (June 29) from 1-9:30 p.m. The festivity is in partnership with the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei and the Formosa Cancer Foundation and is supported by Taipei City Government.
Canada Day marks the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867.
The celebration “attracts a lot of people in the community here in Taipei, Taiwanese, Canadians, and others altogether, in one big family,” Canada Representative to Taiwan James Nickel said at a press conference on Wednesday. The Canada Trade Office will have a booth that showcases “the rich tapestry of Canada,” Nickels said.
The event will feature activities such as a raffle draw and a poutine eating contest. Numerous bands including the Muddy Basin Ramblers will also perform throughout the day.
The celebration is the largest Canada Day outside of Canada and the largest foreign national birthday celebration in Taiwan, with over 9,000 people attending annually.
Last year’s event was held at Taipei Hakka Cultural Park.
