TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – On the first work day following the long Dragon Boat Festival holiday weekend, Taiwan's bike rental platform YouBike unexpectedly crashed at 7:51 a.m. on Tuesday (June 11).
The service disruption led some people to be late to work or school, generating online complaints. Taipei City Department of Transportation contacted YouBike, which resolved the problem at 8:27 a.m.
YouBike said on its website that system abnormalities with YouBike 2.0 and YouBike 2.0E led to a temporary suspension. The company recommended users select an alternative means of transportation for their morning commute.
The Taipei City Department of Transportation also issued a statement reiterating the same information as YouBike. YouBike’s system also crashed on May 20 at 9:10 p.m.
YouBike service is otherwise generally available across Taiwan, operating in 11 cities and counties.
