TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A team of American English teachers participated in the dragon boat races held in Penghu County on Monday (June 10).
The Penghu County Dragon Boat Festival competition kicked off Monday in Magong No. 3 Fishing Port, reported CNA. American English teachers living in Penghu formed a team and participated in dragon boat racing for the first time.
Overseeing the start of the competition was Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復), who encouraged the participating teams to "make friends by boat" and to prioritize safety while striving for good results.

The Penghu event had 30 dragon boat teams participating. One of the teams was the "Penghu Pirates," formed by American English teachers working in Penghu, which flew the Jolly Roger during its races.
They competed in the mixed-gender category. The English teachers said that although their paddling was not very coordinated during the first race, they found the experience novel and enjoyable, drawing attention from the crowd for their enthusiasm.
