TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Meteorologists predicted rain throughout the Dragon Boat Festival holiday and next week.
Due to a weather front in South China, all regions of Taiwan should remain alert to localized showers or afternoon thunderstorms on Thursday (June 6), reported the Central Weather Administration (CWA). Heavier afternoon rainfall will occur near mountainous areas in the central and southern regions of Taiwan, said Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮).
Meteorologists said from Friday to Wednesday (June 7-12), a stationary front will cause unstable atmospheric conditions and "severe weather." Rainfall may continue until next Saturday (June 15), and people in mountain areas should be cautious of landslides and falling rocks due to heavy rain.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) said from Saturday to Monday, the weather will become more muggy. Except for the offshore islands of Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu, temperatures across Taiwan proper will be between 30 to 32 C higher.
WeatherRisk Director Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) said during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, there will be localized short-term showers in the afternoons across various regions. From Monday to next Saturday, Chia said southwest winds will bring moisture, leading to localized showers along the western coastal areas in the early morning and localized showers or thunderstorms in the afternoons.
Chia said there is also a higher chance of significant rainfall in areas south of Chiayi starting Monday.
