TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed a resolution calling on U.S. Congress to continue backing Taiwan on Tuesday (June 4).
The resolution urged Congress to support Taiwan’s participation in international organizations and encouraged the House to “enhance the friendship and bilateral relationship between Pennsylvania and Taiwan.”
The resolution pointed out the close ties between Pennsylvania and Taiwan, saying the two sides “have developed an enduring and mutually beneficial partnership that facilitates economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.” Pennsylvania reopened a trade and investment office in Taiwan in 2022.
Taiwan is the state’s sixth largest export market in Asia, and the state is home to an increasing number of Taiwanese companies “that create thousands of jobs,” the resolution said.
Additionally, Pennsylvania and Taiwan universities have engaged in more exchanges, particularly in English and Mandarin education, the resolution said. It listed the partnership between Pennsylvania State University and National Taiwan Normal University as a prime example of educational exchanges.
