TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Thousands of people turned up at Taiwan’s office in Paris over the weekend to watch a digital representation of a temple festival, reports said Tuesday (June 4).
The event marking the 30th anniversary of Taiwan’s cultural affairs office in the French capital also formed part of “La Nuit Blanche,” an annual arts and culture festival, per CNA. The 22nd edition of its Paris event took place from Saturday night (June 1) to Sunday (June 2).
The Taiwan event, dubbed “Tsio” (醮), projected images related to temple festivals onto the office building. The colorful five-minute show by the award-winning Bito team featured elements from Taiwan’s religious culture, from firecrackers and incense to lanterns and the ceremonial burning of ships.
Cultural Center Director Lolita Hu (胡晴舫) said the project was the first-ever application by the center to participate in “La Nuit Blanche” and was approved by the Paris City Government within one month. The event took on extra significance in the run-up to the Paris Olympics, bringing Taiwanese culture to a wider audience.
