TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) on Monday (June 3) said his firm will build a large design center in Taiwan within five years.
Huang told the media that his firm plans to establish a design center in Taiwan that will employ at least 1,000 engineers, per CNA. He said Nvidia is looking for a large site to build the center, but the location has not yet been decided.
Huang is visiting Taiwan for the annual computer expo, Computex Taipei, which runs from June 4-7. On Monday evening, he hosted a dinner for Nvidia employees at the Ji Pin Restaurant in Taipei.
In an interview with the media following the dinner, Huang said Nvidia welcomes recommendations for suitable locations for the center.
During his visit, Huang repeatedly emphasized the importance of Taiwan's supply chain partners to Nvidia. In a speech on Sunday (June 2), Huang praised Taiwan's complete and unique ecosystem, calling the nation the "unsung hero, a steadfast pillar of the world."
In 2021, Nvidia received approval from the Ministry of Economic Affairs to participate in the “Leading Enterprise R&D Deepening Plan,” which had a budget of approximately NT$24.3 billion (US$749.8 million). The program received a subsidy of NT$6.7 billion, while Nvidia contributed NT$17.6 billion to establish the first AI R&D center in Taipei's Neihu District in 2022.
Some media reports have speculated Nvidia's second AI R&D center could be located in the Kaohsiung Software Technology Park, but this has not been confirmed.
