TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two Chinese supply ships were spotted passing through Kinmen restricted waters on Friday (May 31).
Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch said on Saturday (June 1) that it reported two ships approaching Kinmen from Xiamen at 9:13 a.m on Friday, per CNA.
The Coast Guard dispatched its PP-10039 patrol boat to assess the situation, identifying the targets as Chinese military supply ships with hull numbers KD161 and KD162, which had landing craft structures. The Taiwanese Coast Guard boat issued warnings to the Chinese ships.
Despite poor sea conditions, with wind forces of 6 to 7 and gusts up to 9, the coast guard’s PP-10039 continued to issue warnings, per UDN.
The Chinese ships were driven away at 9:53 a.m. with no detentions, the Coast Guard reported.
