TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) on Wednesday (May 29) said Taiwan is “one of the most important countries in the world” as it is the heart of the electronics industry.
On his latest visit to Taiwan, which started May 26, Huang was spotted strolling through a Taipei night market in Taipei's Da'an District on Wednesday evening. In an interview during his visit to the market, Huang shared his thoughts on Taiwan and its strategic role in technological development.
In the afternoon, Huang had visited Tapei's Siping Yangguang Shopping District in Taipei's Zhongshan District to buy preserved fruits and eat braised pork rice, reported SET News. That evening, he went to Linjiang Night Market in Da'an District to buy fruits such as green mangos and watermelons from his favorite vendor, with whom he conversed in Taiwanese.
As he perused the night market, Huang was approached by a CTS reporter and accepted an impromptu interview. When asked to comment on the importance of Taiwan, Huang said, “Taiwan is one of the most important countries in the world. It is at the center of the electronics industry."
“The computer industry is built because of Taiwan, so it's a very, very important country,” added Huang.
Asked if he visits TSMC when he comes to Taiwan, Huang said, “I have had many visits with TSMC. I'm looking forward to seeing C.C. (TSMC CEO C.C. Wei).”
In response to a question about the progress of artificial intelligence, Huang said: “Artificial intelligence is making very fast progress, including in Taiwan.”
Regarding a teased big announcement at Computex Taipei, Huang said, “You are going to have to see the speech.” Huang is slated to deliver the keynote address for Computex on June 2 at 7 p.m. at the NTU Sports Center.
As for how he plans to enjoy his trip to Taiwan, he said he and his wife will go to restaurants, but did not reveal his itinerary. When asked how he balances his work with his private life, Huang said, “Focus on the most important things.”
On Wednesday evening, Huang dined at the restaurant Zuo's Special Cuisine (邹记食铺) in Songshan District with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) founder Morris Chang (張忠謀), Quanta Computer founder Barry Lam (林百里), MediaTek Inc. Chair Tsai Ming-kai (蔡明介), and other tech tycoons, reported UDN.
