TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Due to the arrival of a plum rain front, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued heavy rain alerts for 17 counties and cities.
The CWA said on its Facebook page there will be a high chance of showers or thunderstorms across various regions. The west and north will experience more widespread rainfall, with more rain in the first half of the day. The west could also see more heavy rain and localized torrential rain.
At 9:15 a.m., the CWA issued an orange extremely heavy rain advisory from the morning to late afternoon for Hsinchu, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County. It issued a yellow heavy rain advisory for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Changhua County, Nantou County, Chiayi, and Penghu County.
The CWA also advised the public to beware of lightning strikes and strong wind gusts. It called on the public to be alert for landslides and falling rocks in mountainous areas and to be careful of flooding in low-lying areas.
