The Government of Paraguay through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its concern about the military actions of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the Taiwan Strait and around Taiwan. It advocates for peace and stability in the region.
China reportedly launched two days of military exercises around Taiwan in what it called a “heavy punishment” in response to comments made during President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) inaugural address on May 20.
“Paraguay observes with concern and condemns the military exercises carried out by the People’s Republic of China in the vicinity of the Republic of China (Taiwan). These constitute a serious threat to the balance in the region. Paraguay advocates for peace and stability in the world,” said the ministry.
President Santiago Peña and his delegation returned from Taiwan after attending the inauguration of President Lai and participating in meetings with technology investors.
