TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A group of 32 junior high school students and teachers escaped unharmed from a bus that caught fire on a highway in Taichung City, reports said Saturday (May 25).
The bus was traveling north from Tainan City to Taoyuan City on National Freeway No. 3 in Taichung City’s Longjing District around noon when the driver noticed a problem with his vehicle, UDN reported. He halted on the side of the highway and let all passengers out.
After the bus had stopped, a fire erupted, destroying the whole vehicle. Nobody was injured in the blaze, which was extinguished at 12:10 p.m., the fire department said.
The students and teachers of Tainan Municipal Houjia Junior High School had been on their way to a soccer match. Another bus came to pick them up to continue their journey after the fire.
A team from the Taichung City Fire Department is investigating the cause of the blaze.
