TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The typhoon season will start with Tropical Storm Ewiniar passing far east of Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration said Friday (May 24).
The tropical depression TD01 located east of the southern Philippines island of Mindanao is likely to develop into a tropical storm by the end of Friday at the earliest, per CNA. Forecasters have seen the storm move north-northwest toward Luzon and then turn northeast before the end of May.
The depression is 1,800 kilometers southeast of Hengchun in Pingtung County, the CWA said. While it would move closest to Taiwan around May 28, it would still be too far east to make a significant impact on the nation’s weather outlook, according to forecasters.
