TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Actor Chris Wang (王宥勝) was sentenced Friday (May 24) to eight months in prison for sexually assaulting a female colleague.
An investigation by the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office determined that Wang had kissed and inappropriately touched a woman while sitting on her lap and in November charged him with forceable indecent assault (強制猥褻罪). A Taipei District Court Friday sentenced Wang to eight months in prison, but the conviction is subject to appeal, reported CNA.
The prosecution's indictment states that on a day in late 2016, Wang offered to give a ride home to a woman, claiming that he was going the same way. Wang asked to use the bathroom after they arrived at her home.
He reportedly was in a bad mood and complained to the woman, then walked up to her and straddled her lap.
Wang held the woman's hands, forcibly kissed her, unfastened her bra, and sexually molested her. Wang only stopped, reportedly, after the woman continued to fight him off.
During the trial, the court took into consideration that at the time of the incident Wang was well-known. He was said to have exploited his victim’s trust, using violence to sexually assault her.
The court said Wang had not reached a settlement with the woman. Also, Wang contacted the victim and witnesses, and was said to lack remorse.
