TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Chair Laura Rosenberger and AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk stopped by Taiwan’s Cabinet on Thursday morning (May 23).
Cabinet spokesperson Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) said they met with an old acquaintance, Minister without Portfolio Chi Lien-cheng (季連成), but did not attend the Cabinet meeting, CNA reported.
Chen said that AIT officials routinely visit various government offices. Oudkirk met Premier Cho Jung-ta (卓榮泰) on May 21, he said, adding that Thursday’s visit was pre-arranged.
Rosenberger arrived in Taiwan to attend President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) inauguration on May 20 and to meet with Taiwanese officials to “emphasize the United States’ longstanding commitment in maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait,” per AIT.
The AIT chair last visited Taiwan in late March. She met with Taiwan officials, politicians, and academics to discuss issues of mutual concern, including regional security, trade and investment, and people-to-people educational and cultural ties, AIT said.
