TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two passengers suffered injuries from a knife attack on Taichung MRT's Green Line on Tuesday morning (May 21), and service has been temporarily stopped at several stations.
At 11:17 a.m., a 20-year-old man surnamed Hung (洪) allegedly stabbed passengers on a train near the MRT Taichung City Hall Station on Wenxin Road in Xitun District, reported New-Reporter.com. Three people, including Hung, sustained injuries and were sent to Lin Shin Hospital.
Passengers said Hung boarded at Sui-an Temple Station. He put his bag on a luggage rack, took out a knife, and attacked the passenger closest to him.

Another passenger managed to take the knife away from Hung, reported CNA, but he pulled out another one and continued his attack.
Other passengers then rushed to pin Hung against the train door, and while some were hitting him in the head, one passenger was able to wrestle the knife away.

When police arrived, Hung was on the floor of the carriage. Police then put Hung in handcuffs and proceeded to lead him out of the station.
Hung later struggled with the police and they were forced to restrain him as he was placed on a stretcher to be sent to the hospital.
The three people sent to the hospital include a 17-year-old boy with lacerations to his chest, shoulders, and arm. A 27-year-old man suffered a 15-cm cut on his face, while Hung sustained lacerations to his face and hands.
The 17-year-old boy was reportedly seriously injured. Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) visited the patients in the hospital and said the city government would cover the medical expenses for the two injured passengers.

Three knives were seized at the scene. Taichung City Hall Station was sealed off as police investigated, and trains from Wenxin Chongde to Wenxin Yinhua stations have been temporarily halted.
